What is Tylenol used for?

   

  • Tylenol is used to treat mild to moderate pain due to headache, muscle aches, backache, arthritis, common cold, flu, toothache and to reduce fever.

How should you take this medication?

  • Take Tylenol by mouth as directed, Tylenol may be taken with or without food.
     
  • For suspensions, shake the bottle well before each dose. Measure the liquid medication with the provided dose-measuring spoon to make sure you have the correct dose.
     
  • If you miss a dose of Tylenol and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose.

General Precautions with Tylenol

  • Before taking tylenol , tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have any other allergies.
     
  • Do not use Tylenol to relieve pain for more than 10 days, or to reduce fever for more than 3 days.
     
  • Tylenol may cause liver damage. Daily use of alcohol may increase your risk for liver damage.

What are the possible side effects of Tylenol?

  • Tylenol is relatively free of side effects. Rarely, an allergic reaction may occur. If you develop any allergic symptoms such as rash, hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, stop taking Tylenol and notify your doctor.
