What is Tramadol used for?
- Tramadol is used to treat moderate to severe
pain. It works on certain nerves in the brain that
control how you experience pain.
How should you take this medication?
- Take Tramadol by mouth with or without food, take
each dose with a full glass of water.
- If you miss a dose of tramadol , take it as soon
as possible. If it is almost time for your next
dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your
regular dosing schedule.
- Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release
tablet. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made
to release medicine slowly in the body.
General Precautions with Tramadol
- Nausea or vomiting may occur, especially after
the first couple of doses. This effect may go away
if you lie down for awhile. However, if nausea or
vomiting continues, check with your medical doctor.
- This medicine may cause some people to become drowsy,
dizzy, or lightheaded. Make sure you know how you
react to this medicine before you drive, use machines,
or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are
dizzy or are not alert .
- Do not drink alcohol while you are taking tramadol.
Alcohol may cause a dangerous decrease in your
breathing when used together with tramadol.
- Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual
or allergic reaction to tramadol or narcotic
analgesics.
- Although studies on birth defects have not been done
in pregnant women, tramadol has not been reported to
cause birth defects. Before taking this medicine, make
sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you
may become pregnant.
What are the possible side effects of Tramadol?
- Continue taking tramadol and talk to your doctor if
you have any of these less serious side effects:
blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, increased
sweating; loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or
constipation.
- Seek medical attention right away if any of these side
effects occur: rash; hives; difficulty breathing;
swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
