What is Soma used for?

  • Soma is a muscle relaxer, it works by blocking the signals from the spinal cord to the muscle. Soma is used along with rest, physical therapy, and other measures, for the relief of acute, painful muscle strains and spasms.

How should you take this medication?

  • Take this medication by mouth with or without food, take each dose with a full glass of water. Take with food if stomach upset occurs.
     
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember if only an hour or so has passed. If you do not remember until later, skip the dose you missed and go back to your regular schedule.

General Precautions with Soma

  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to any of the skeletal muscle relaxants or to carbromal, meprobamate or tybamate.
     
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, liver problems, asthma, seizure disorder.
     
  • Soma may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Soma.
     
  • This drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
     
  • Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by soma.

What are the possible side effects of Soma?

  • Blurred or double vision or any change in vision, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, stomach upset, unusually fast heartbeat, low blood pressure, or face flushing may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
