What is Remeron used for?
- Remeron is in a class of drugs called
antidepressants, it is used to relieve symptoms of
depression.
How should you take this medication?
- Remeron is usually taken once a day, preferably
at bedtime. Take this medication by mouth with
or without food.
- It may be several weeks before you start to feel
better. Even when you start to feel better, do not
stop taking Remeron without first talking to your
doctor.
- If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as
soon as possible if you remember it the same day.
However, if you don't remember until the next day,
skip the missed dose and return to your regular
dosing schedule.
General Precautions with Remeron
- Dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting may
occur , especially when you get up from a lying or
sitting position. If this problem continues or
gets worse, check with your doctor.
- Do not take Remeron with monoamine oxidase
inhibitors or sooner than 14 days after stopping an
MAO inhibitor. Do not take an MAO inhibitor sooner
than 14 days after stopping remeron. To do so may
increase the chance of serious side effects.
- Remeron may cause drowsiness or trouble in
thinking. Make sure you know how you react to this
medicine before you drive, use machines, or do other
jobs that require you to be alert and clearheaded.
- Before taking this medication, tell your doctor
or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you
have any other allergies.
What are the possible side effects of Remeron?
- If you experience any of the following serious
side effects, stop taking mirtazapine and call your
doctor immediately or seek emergency medical
treatment: an allergic reaction (swelling of the
lips, face, or tongue; difficulty breathing), fast
or irregular heartbeat.
- Check with your doctor immediately if any of the
following side effects occur: abnormal dreams,
constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, flu
symptoms, increased appetite, weakness, weight gain.
