What is Lamictal used for?
- Lamictal is used to prevent or control seizures
in adults and children who are at least 2 years old.
How should you take this medication?
-
Lamictal can be taken with or without food as
directed by your doctor.
- Take the regular
Lamictal tablet with a full
glass of water.
- To take the chewable dispersible tablet, you may
either swallow it whole with a glass of water, or
chew it first and then swallow it.
- Taking more than the prescribed amount can increase
your risk of developing a serious rash. Do not stop
taking lamictal without first discussing it with
your doctor.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you
remember. If it is almost time for your next dose,
skip the one you missed and go back to your regular
schedule.
General Precautions with Lamictal
- Before taking lamictal, tell your doctor or
pharmacist if you are allergic to it, or if you have
any other allergies.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or
pharmacist your medical history, especially of:
kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, rash
while taking lamotrigine.
- This medication may cause severe or
life-threatening skin rash, especially in children,
particularly if you are also taking depakene or
depakote.
- Carry an ID card or wear a medical alert bracelet
stating that you are taking lamictal, in case of
emergency.
- This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy, use caution
while engaging in activities requiring alertness
such as driving or using machinery.
What are the possible side effects of Lamictal ?
- Get emergency medical help if you have any of these
signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty
breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or
throat.
- Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare
but very serious side effects occur: easy
bruising/bleeding, black/bloody stools, vomit that
looks like coffee grounds, unusual tiredness, body
aches, flu symptoms, stomach pain, low fever, loss
of appetite, muscle weakness, dark urine, change in
the amount of urine.
