What is Exelon used for?
- Exelon is used to treat the symptoms of mild to
moderate Alzheimer's disease. It works by preventing
the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine.
How should you take this medication?
- Take Exelon by mouth with food, usually twice
daily in the morning and evening or as directed by
your doctor.
- If you need to have any type of surgery, tell the
surgeon ahead of time that you are taking Exelon. You
may need to stop using the medicine for a short time.
- If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as
soon as possible. However, if you do not remember
within a few hours, skip the missed dose and go back
to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.
General Precautions with Exelon
- Exelon may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred
vision, or lightheadedness. Use caution engaging in
activities requiring alertness such as driving or
using machinery.
- Before you have any kind of surgery, dental
treatment, or emergency treatment, tell the doctor
medical doctor or dentist in charge that you are
taking this medicine.
What are the possible side effects of Exelon?
- Get emergency medical help if you have any of
these signs of an allergic reaction: hives;
difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips,
tongue, or throat.
- Check with your doctor if any of these common
side effects persist or become bothersome:
loss of appetite, diarrhea, dizziness. drowsiness,
weakness, headache, headache, sweating,
nausea, stomach pain vomiting.
