What is Clindamycin used for?

  • Clindamycin is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. Clindamycin is used to treat acne.

How should you take this medication?

  • Use this medication only on the skin. Clean and dry the affected area first. Do not use this medicine more often than recommended by your doctor. Excessive use can make your skin dry or irritated.
     
  • If you are using the lotion, shake the bottle well before using. Apply a thin layer of medication usually twice a day or as directed by your doctor.
     
  • If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next application, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule.

General Precautions with Clindamycin

  • Before using clindamycin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to lincomycin; or if you have any other allergies.
     
  • Before using clindamycin, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, an intestinal disorder such as colitis or Crohn's disease, or a history of asthma, eczema, or allergic skin reaction.
     
  • This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Clindamycin?

  • Burning, itching, dryness, redness, oily skin or skin peeling may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
