Biaxin

Generic Name: Clarithromycin
Brand Names: Biaxin

What is Biaxin used for?

  • Biaxin is in a class of medicines called macrolide antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections in many parts of the body such as the ears, throat, lungs, sinuses, and skin. It is used in combination with other medicines to treat stomach ulcers caused by bacteria.
    .

How should you take this medication?

  • Biaxin may be taken with meals or milk or on an empty stomach. Take this medication with a full glassof water.

  • Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time.

  • Shake the oral suspension well just before you measure a dose. To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon.

  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, take the one you missed and take the next one 5 to 6 hours later. Then go back to your regular schedule.
